There are a lot of reasons to go to The Vortex this Saturday night. If you like rock or hip-hop or acoustic trios or just getting a lot of bang for your buck. But the best may be to support a name on the bill you don’t recognize, even if you think you know everything about local music.
On December 27, 2013, Michael Black was recovering from brain surgery. After experiencing seizures, his doctors discovered a tumor the size of a ping pong ball in his right temporal lobe. Believe it or not, the year that followed actually got worst. But, there’s a silver lining—if not a full-blown happy ending—and it begins taking shape on the stage at The Vortex this Saturday night as Mike makes his debut as a musician. He’ll join several local musicians wrapping up a busy 2014 and looking forward to a big 2015. Shortly into the New Year, we’ll share more of Michael’s story. In the meantime, put the Vortex on your schedule this weekend. There are many worse ways to spend five bucks.
